I used to buy these filters locally for my Braun Flavor Select, but, when I moved, I could not find a source. I am so glad I've found them here because I wouldn't want to do without them.

Although the Flavor Select does come with a dummy cartridge to place where the filter belongs, it is well worth your while to use the water filters. I was going through coffee pots every couple of years because of hard water deposits in the lines - and vinegar cleanings did not help. The filters have kept my Braun brewing coffee without ever having to use vinegar or other methods of interior cleaning. While I can't say that my coffee tastes better, I can attest that these filters have lengthened the life of my brewer.

Reviewed by: Mark R. Watson Eugene, OR USA
Rating:
I purchased the Braun coffee maker before realizing that the appliance used a Brita filter. Initially skeptical, I've come to see the value in the approach. First, I think the coffee tastes better as the water, drawn through the filter, is purified and any "taste" is eliminated before it is distributed through the grounds. You get the flavor of the coffee, not the flavor of the coffee and the local water. Second, the filter prevents the formulation of build up within the coffee maker. You know the "white stuff" that forms inside the machine after awhile that's hard to remove? You don't get that with the filter. The filters last for a couple of months and they are really easy to replace. I'm sold!

My only complaint is about the inclusion of the water filter. We use RO or bottled water and really don't need a filter. However Braun does not make the same model without a filter. The filter is an added cost for those who don't need it. Also, the filter in our case has lasted between 3-4 months and so we have not replaced it every 2 months as the manufacturer suggested.

There really isn't much to debate with these. They are built into the machine and SHOULD be replaced occasionally. I happen to notice a better taste to the coffee after switching these every few months, but I wouldn't let that be the only factor in your decision to buy. Leaving the same filter in place for a long period of time w/o changing it will most certainly lead to build up of minerals and potentially cause bacterial/fungal accumulation (the filter, unlike the water, does not get sanitized by boiling water). I don't want to make anyone too paranoid, but there are basic biological consequences to leaving pools of water and minerals sitting around too long.

107.) Model numbers that this applies to
Reviewed by: Stephen Holland Naperville, IL
Rating:
As of 27 October 2002, this filter fits Braun Coffee makers models KF580, KF550, KF510, KF190, KF187, KF180, KF157, KF155, KF150, KF145, KF140, KF130.

If you go to the Braun Web site and want to search for your model coffee maker, be aware that Braun thinks these are two word model numbers. Their search engine wants you to enter KF + 157 for the KF157 model.

The filters work. We like them more for the hard water problem than the chlorine issue. The filter does both well. Just pricey.

108.) The Braun/Brita Monopoly Game: Works Well But Costly
Reviewed by: M. Allen Greenbaum California
Rating:
Apparently Braun teamed with the Brita company to offer this replacement water filter that currently costs $9.99 for two. Though their instruction manual practically pounds you over the head with how necessary it is to replace the filter, it doesn't tell you what model to get! (From the instruction manual: The water filter "improves coffee flavor by significantly reducing chlorine and also prevents calcification ... Provided that the cartridge is replaced regularly every two months, it not only brews better tasting coffee but can also extend the life of your coffeemaker by preventing [this gets redundant] calcification buildup. Braun water filer cartridges are available at your local retailer or Braun service centers.")

Important:
If you own a Braun and want the replacement filter, the best thing you can do is read the outstanding KWF2 filter review on Amazon.com (posted October 27, 2002, and located a few pages down) by Stephen Holland of Naperville, Illinois: "Model numbers that this applies to, October 27, 2002." I excerpt from that review here: "As of 27 October 2002, this filter fits Braun Coffee makers models KF580, KF550, KF510, KF190, KF187, KF180, KF157, KF155, KF150, KF145, KF140, KF130." I suggest you give him a "helpful" vote for the research he did. (Stephen, please write me if you prefer that I not use this excerpt.)

I have the KF 590 (also known as the KF590E), and according to this website http://www.theessentials.com/jump.jsp?itemID=994&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C8%2C65%2C336&iProductID=994 , that model also uses the KWF2.

(The following section is taken from my own review for the Krups 590): Braun's manual recommends that you buy a new water filter every two months, but the Braun-linked website above tells you to replace it every 70 brews. Depending on your consumption, that could easily take three or four months, not two. Also, running vinegar through the machine twice should dissolve most or all of the calcification, and one can always just buy bottled water. At one filter every two months (see below), annual replacement (assuming no shipping) will cost you about $60, or about 75% of the current Amazon.com sale price. Braun and Brita executives must be in their cups over this sweet little arrangement they've brewed. It's a great coffee maker, but the convenience of the filters will cost you.

109.) New High Pricing - FYI
Reviewed by: klw Bethesda, MD
Rating:
Just an FYI: I called Braun this morning to find out about the huge increase in prices. I was also suspicious since many on-line dealers were out of stock. It turns out the Braun is ceasing all U.S. business...that means the filters too. The high price is just reflective that the retailers are not getting any more in from the supplier so it will go up in price until they are all gone.

These filters for my Braun coffee maker appear to be brand new. They fit properly and seem to work. Shipping was prompt. The only downside was the shop-worn appearance of the package in which they were sealed. It looked as though it had been used as the ball in a touch football game, crinkled and scuffed to the point at which I would not have bought it off a retail shelf. The packaging was still sealed, though, and the product appears to be OK, but I would have expected a heftier discount considering the condition in which the merchandise was when it was delivered.

Amazon-- if I could find a "contact us" link, I would have written you that way, but I think you review this as well. If you correct this problem, don't bother posting this, of course!

Of course, I wouldn't use this water to drink or put into my coffeemaker for fear of health concerns or damage to the coffeemaker. I am not suprised to see the reviews that found no difference using this type of filter on coffee flavor. Since I didn't get around to using these horrible filters till several months after my purchase, I am not expecting a refund. I have used many original Braun coffeemaker filters in past, and none have had this problem. They always produce clear water on the presoak.

We removed the filter and used the stock insert from there on out. We ended up finally deciding to use a faucet mounted Pur filtering system so we could filter water for normal drinking as well. Finally, 1+ year later, we thought about the filters again and were able to find them. I bought six of them and installed the first one yesterday. This morning, I bypassed my Pur 3-stage filter and used normal tap water, relying on the Brita filter. My coffee is terrible. I roast my own coffee so my wife and I always look forward to the best cup in the morning. Coffee yesterday was as wonderful as it has always been. This morning, it's bitter and I'm left with a constant bitter after taste in my mouth. This filters do not do much filtering.

Features of Braun Brita Patented KWF2 Water Filter (2-Pack)

As everyone knows good coffee starts with good beans and good water. If your tap water isn't good enough to drink on its own, it probably isn't ideal for brewing coffee either. These water filters work with the Braun 12 cup coffeemakers that feature the PureAqua filtration system.

Designed to fit all Braun FlavorSelect coffeemakers, the two water filters in this pack improve coffee flavor by filtering out chlorine and other off-tasting elements. They also slow down the calcification process. Each filter lasts for about 70 brewing cycles--or about two months. --Fred Brack

1.) Two-pack of Brita water filters for all Braun FlavorSelect and AromaDeluxe coffeemakers;
2.) Each filter lasts for about 70 brewing cycles;
3.) Also reduces calcification;
